Ed and Martha Biggar
About Us...
We consider ourselves a team:   teaching, working, farming, and living in Southwest
Virginia, as we aspire to live our lives as an art couple.  We are in the process of
moving our  hot glass studio nearer our home in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.
We live in Draper, where we create our flame-worked, fused, and silver pieces, while
maintaining our beef cow/calf herd, and just lately, our horses, donkeys and a riding
mule.

Ed has been working in glass for over three decades, starting with an art
major at Oregon State University in the early 1970s, and continuing to a four
year glass program at Cal State San Bernadino.   He currently serves as an
instructor and technical consultant, as well as freelance writer for The Flow,
Profitable Glass Quarterly, and Glass Craftsman. In the past, Ed has written
for Sign Builder Illustrated and the Neon News magazines.   He is the
proprietor of his own studio, Artneon,  He has exhibited both nationally as well
as internationally and is the recipient of numerous awards for his mixed media
sculptures featuring elements of glass and light, including neon.

Martha took a BFA in design in the early 80s, and began concentrating in jewelry
in 1992, Precious Metal Clay in 2000, and now treats glass as jewelry in tandem
with metal clay. She partners with Ed in writing magazine articles, including an
article in Glass Craftsman about teaching glass to middle school students.   One
of Martha's metal clay sculptures, a silver mask, was selected for exhibition with
the New River '07 Show at Virginia Tech in October, and is also featured in Holly
Gage's Metal Clay Calendar 2009.

Between the two, Ed and Martha Biggar have over forty years of experience with glass. Both teach at
venues including the Jacksonville Center, Floyd, VA, Corning Studio, Corning, NY, Urban Glass, NYC,
and the Bead and Button Show, Milwaukee, WI.

Recently, we've been featured in Profitable Glass Quarterly, the Winter issue for 2009! Click here to
check out the shorter article on the Web!

We
also presented a seminar at the PMC Conference, 2008, at Purdue University, entitled New
Techniques
in Fused Glass.  Click for resources, recipes, and other information we shared.   We're
going to be at the 2010 Conference, look for us there.

  • New for 2010:  check out the April issue of Bead and Button magazine for 2 articles from us, an
"Expert Advice" column about bronze clay, and a How-To using carving techniques with bronze, copper
and silver.  Carving is our favorite new technique.

  • We're scheduling classes well into 2010, so look at our class listing and see if we're near you!
If not, drop us a line and we'll see what we can arrange in your area.

we've been "posing" in front of
this tree for 40 years!
