Classes...

If you really want to immerse yourself in a great
atmosphere and work with glass and metal clay then this
two week class is for you! This class will explore more
advanced techniques in combining Precious Metal Clay
(PMC) with glass to create wearable art. Students will
work with new methods of kiln forming, as well as using
silver and the new bronze metal clays. Students will
learn some traditional silversmith techniques such as
riveting and doming, taking their metal clay skills to new
levels. The class also will experiment with photo polymer
plates, water etching, and carving dry clay. Some
experience working with PMC is required. Basic glass
fusing experience also will be helpful.
We will spend mornings working with new techniques
for fusing small scale works in glass; then in the
afternoons we’ll guide students through practical
methods of setting glass in silver metal clay. Students
will complete several pieces of wearable art during this
in-depth intermediate class.
The wonderful Corning Museum of Glass is just next
door, a treat to visit and an enormous source of
inspiration.
Students are encouraged to register as soon as possible
in order to reserve their space; check with the Corning
Studio for more information.

Some "in the works" photos from a
similar class at the Corning Studio, with
fired but not polished PMC and glass.
We often experiment with found pieces
of glass; Ed made this pendant, left,
which started as a scrap from the hot
glass process, slumped slightly in the
kiln to create a flat bottom, and
surrounded with PMC3.
