Ed and Martha Biggar
What's New!

We just finished several days of working with
5th graders at the Floyd County, Virginia
elementary schools.  We went into each
school with examples of glass made with
different techniques, did a little talking about
glass history, hit a lot of their SOLs,
specifically about the way light transmits
through glass, and then completed a fusing
project with them.  Each student had the
opportunity to create an opaque and a
transparent piece of kilnformed glass.
Here's some happy folks at work!

We want to thank the Jacksonville Center for
the Arts in Floyd for overseeing the funding
and the connection with the school system
there, as well as the principals, art and 5th
grade teachers, and central office staff who
allowed us to come in.  We're already
looking forward to next year!
When Willie was born, at the end of April,
we had his mom in the pen Ed rebuilt just
for them, and had cows and calves in the
field next to it; those calves are amazingly
curious!  I can hear them saying now,
"Mama, what kind of cow is THAT?"

Here's Ed and Willie with mama Brandy about the middle of June.

Students as well as staff enjoyed their hands-on
experience with fused glass at Floyd County Elementary
School.  In the center, a shelf of opaque creations waits
its turn to be fired in the kiln.
And here's a little of life down on the farm...
